A few handy vacuum tips you may not know

Ok, so I’m going to assume I’m safe in saying that pretty much everyone has a vacuum in their home somewhere, but did you know about these handy little things that your vacuum can help you out with in your home?

Add a little fragrance to the home

Choose your favourite perfume or essential oil, saturate a cotton ball with it and simply place in to your vacuum bag. Now as you vacuum along as normal the scent will slowly release and infuse with the air in the room.

A bit of dust

The humble vacuum is more versatile than you may have thought, by using the dusting attachment you can easily dust places that would otherwise be a pain such as blinds, pictures, books etc.
Especially useful in the open-window season (summer) when your doors and windowsills become dust and pollen hot spots; use the attachment here to get rid of the allergens before they blow into your home.  Repeat on a weekly basis to maintain low levels of dust.

Get in those crevices

Utilise the crevice tool that comes with your vacuum and use it to get rid of those hard to reach crumbs like the ones in the tray under the toaster or the refrigerator door shelves and then simply clean as you usually would.

This attachment can also help with the lint tray in your washing machine or tumble dryer after using the brush attachment on it first you can use the crevice tool to remove any remaining lint in the tray.

Easily get rid of carpet dents

So you want to move the furniture around and you know there’s going be some dents left in your carpet.  All you need to do to remove those unattractive dents is to place an ice cube on the dent and wait for it to melt. Now it has melted, the water will cause the carpet fibres to go back to their original shape and all you need to do is then vacuum the damp area to restore it.

Deodorise un-washable material items

To remove odours from any plush item that you can’t put in the washing machine such as mattresses or throw pillows, sprinkle a little baking soda on the offending item, leave to do its thing for around 30 min and then vacuum to get rid of the dust, dirt and smell.

Brexit and vacuums cleaners

You might remember that in 2014 the EU put out a new law that banned the sale of some of the most powerful vacuums on the market at the time, prohibiting manufacturers from making or importing vacuums that had a motor exceeding 1,600 watts and with a further reduction to 900 watts in 3 years time.

Introduced as part of the EU’s energy efficiency directive design to tackle climate change, it was unwelcome news to a lot of home owners and especially those with severe allergies that relied on that extra power to pick up more allergens.

The legislation was criticised at the time with consumer groups pointing out the fact that the lower wattage vacuums will just be getting used for twice as long as the higher wattage ones, which then defeats the reasoning behind the legislation in the first place.

After the referendum

Before the ban a lot of the top-rated vacuum cleaners on the market where exceeding 1,600 watts, so with us leaving the EU there is the potential of the ban being lifted and these vacuums once again becoming available to be purchased by the UK consumer as well as other electrical good that may come under fire from the EU in the future, such as hairdryers, kettles, and lawnmowers.

This is good news when it comes to cleaning efficiency and when it comes to efficient cleaning Woldbrite is up there with the best, with over 30 years experience in the carpet cleaning industry, we have expanded our expertise and services and now proudly offer top-rate cleaning packages for carpets, wood floors, stone floors, upholstery, rugs and tiles.

Save yourself a fortune with upholstery cleaning from Woldbrite.

It can be tempting when your furniture is worn and tired to simply replace it. The downside to this however can be that it is very expensive! We don’t all have the money lying around to buy a new three-piece suite or armchair set - but this doesn’t mean you have to put up with grubby, old looking furniture.

From a light clean to a full restorative clean on even the most stained and worn settee, we can return the beauty and youth to your furniture by deodorising it, removing dirt and dust mite bacteria, and providing stain protection!

We know that over time all upholstery gathers a collection of stains from spilled food and drinks, pens, slippers, and various other sources. It also gradually becomes dull and lack lustre from overuse and age. Furthermore, it can also start to collect and hold onto unpleasant odours such as cigarettes, strong food smells, and pets.

The cleaning products that we use are completely safe as well as child and pet-friendly. While vacuuming a sofa can dispose of loose dirt and crumbs, it is not as thorough as a deep clean provided by a professional service which is why so many home and business owners use our upholstery cleaning service.

We pride ourselves on remaining local using only the best pet and environmentally friendly chemicals recommended by all the major upholstery manufacturers.

So save your money – get your upholstered furniture cleaned! We guarantee to bring it back to its natural beauty and make it look so fresh and clean that everyone will think that it is new!

How to remove the most common stains

There are numerous irritating stains that get to be really difficult to remove from your clothes, carpets or upholstery. Obviously, here at Woldbrite, we recommend a full restorative clean of you floors and upholstery as a solution, but we know this isn’t always possible.

For this reason, here are some of the most common stains and ways we have found you can treat immediately to remove them and prevent them from setting!

Coffee: Soak immediately with lukewarm water. Gently dab stain with detergent or with vinegar diluted in water. Wash in the hottest water recommended for the fabric and repeat as needed. Avoid bar or powder soap as this can set the stain permanently!

Blood: Rinse immediately with cold water! If possible, immerse in room temperature water with detergent and let soak for 10-15 minutes.

Tomato sauce: Remove excess sauce carefully with a butter knife or spoon. Dab liquid detergent onto the stain. Rinse with cold water from underneath the stain – you don’t want to push it back into the fabric.

Butter/Fat/Cooking Oil: Treat immediately with lukewarm water. Immerse in warm water with detergent. Remove and gently dab stain with detergent; place face down on a paper towel and let stand. For persistent stains, carefully apply bleach or dry cleaning solvent from the inside of the garment and rest face down on paper towels, then wash thoroughly.

Wine: Treat immediately with warm water. Rub in salt and let it stand. Rinse salt out, dab gently with detergent and lay face down on a paper towel. Rinse again and wash normally. Again, avoid bar soaps, which can set the stain permanently.

Mud/Dirt: Soak in lukewarm water to and scrub to remove as much as possible. Apply detergent to remaining stains and let soak for 20-30 minutes. Rinse and repeat.

Removing stains can be very difficult sometimes, so it’s a very good idea to get your floors and upholstery treated properly. We will restore the beauty and life of your carpet and furniture by deodorising it, removing dirt and sating and installing protection against future stains so that your carpets new look in long lasting! You can have a brand new and refreshed home without having the huge expense of re-carpeting or re-upholstering.
